The Muslim Students Association of George Washington University (MSA GWU) seeks to "conduct social, cultural, religious, and other activities in the best interest of Islam"; to "promote unity and joint action among the Muslims"; to "arrange and hold congregational prayers and Islamic religious festivals at appropriate times"; to "promote friendly relations between Muslims and non-Muslims"; and to "endeavor to make Islamic teachings known to interested Muslims and non-Muslims."

MSA GWU strongly opposed the Terrorism Awareness Project's October 2007 Islamo-Fascism Awareness Week (IFAW) activities, whose purpose was to educate American college students about the nature of the fanatical religious movement aiming to create a global Muslim empire. In MSA GWU's estimation, IFAW was an exercise in anti-Muslim bigotry.

Among the more notable IFAW presentations was a speech by David Horowitz to students at George Washington University. At one point in the proceedings, Horowitz was challenged by an MSA GWU member in attendance. When Horowitz publicly asked her whether she would be willing to denounce the terror group Hamas, she refused, claiming not to know what Hamas was. In the lobby afterward, a number of MSA GWU members persisted in criticizing Horowitz's message. They claimed, for instance, that terrorism was entirely unrelated to genuine Islam; that Shari'a law was a viable form of jurisprudence; that acts referred to as part of a coordinated strategy of Islamic terrorism are nothing more than a series of isolated, unrelated incidents; and that Christians and Jews are just as likely as Muslims to engage in terrorism. In addition, several of these students praised the agendas of the Council on American-Islamic Relations.

MSA GWU has participated numerous times in MSA National's "Ramadan Fast-a-Thon" along with nearly 280 fellow Muslim organizations (mostly chapters of MSA). The purpose of this event is to raise, through temporary fasting, public awareness of hunger and homelessness in Muslim communities. Recent endorsers of the Fast-a-Thon include:
